WineDirect's platform retires on December 31, 2026, so a lot of wineries are picking a replacement this year. Most of that decision gets made on features. The part that quietly costs the most is how the platform charges you.
Commerce7's published plans charge a monthly fee plus a percentage of your direct-to-consumer revenue — up to 1.5%. That percentage is a platform fee, charged on top of your card processing. It is not a merchant rate. SipsPOS charges a flat monthly price and takes no percentage at all: you connect your own Square or Stripe account, and card revenue settles straight to you at the rates you negotiated.
Tasting room, wine club and online — everything you sell direct. Wholesale isn't part of either platform's fee.
Commerce7 does not cover winemaking, so a winery that makes its own wine runs a second system alongside it. Neither InnoVint nor vintrace publishes pricing — both quote per winery — so we show it as a cost rather than guessing one.
Card processing is extra on both sides — nobody's payments are free. The difference is that we don't add a platform fee on top, and you keep your own processor and its rates.
Commerce7 figures from their published pricing, checked 2026-07-30 — https://www.commerce7.com/pricing. USD list pricing; Commerce7 publishes a parallel CAD list. Our prices are the ones on our pricing page. Check both before you decide; we would rather you verified this than took our word for it.
A comparison that only flatters us isn't worth reading. Here's the honest version.
| Commerce7 | SipsPOS | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | Monthly fee plus up to 1.5% of everything you sell direct. The bill grows as you do. | A flat monthly price. No percentage, so growing costs you nothing extra. |
| Who holds your card revenue | US and Canadian wineries are moved onto their in-house gateway at onboarding. | Your own Square or Stripe. Money settles to your account, at your rates. |
| Making the wine | Not covered — you add a separate production system. | Vineyard blocks, harvest picks, lots, vessels and bottling in the same system that rings up the sale. |
| What a bottle cost you | No production data, so no true cost of goods. | Grape, oak and packaging follow the wine to the bottle and into your margin reports — including what a tasting flight costs to pour. |
| Liquor-board filing | Sales tax by province, but no liquor-board remittance reporting. | A BC winery's LDB Direct Sales report, built from its own sales and exported ready to upload. |
| Bookkeeping | Accounting through third-party apps. | Balanced journals that sync live into QuickBooks, Xero or Sage, plus payroll-ready time-clock exports. |
| Ecosystem and scale | Theirs is bigger. Thousands of wineries, an open API with an app marketplace, and most wine-marketing agencies build on it. | We're smaller and newer, with no public API yet. If you depend on a specific integration or agency, ask us before you switch. |
| Shipping outside Canada | Mature US DTC compliance through established partners. | We're built for Canadian DTC. If most of your shipping is into the US, they are the better fit today. |
14 days free, no credit card. Bring your own Square or Stripe. If we're the wrong fit for your winery, we'd rather you found that out in a trial than a contract.
